To achieve the best flavor, marinating the turkey is a crucial step that should not be overlooked. Ideally, the turkey should marinate for at least 1 hour, but for maximum flavor, aim for 4 to 6 hours. If time allows, marinating overnight will impart a deeper taste to the turkey.

Ingredients

For the Turkey Skewers:

1 pound turkey breast, cut into 1-inch cubes

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 teaspoons smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon chili powder

Wooden or metal skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak in water for 30 minutes)

For the Cherry Salsa:

1 cup fresh cherries, pitted and diced

½ small red onion, finely chopped

1 jalapeño, seeds removed and finely minced

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional: squeeze of lime juice for extra zing

Instructions

Marinate the Turkey: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chili powder. Add the turkey cubes and mix well until fully coated. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours for more flavor).

Prepare the Salsa: In a separate bowl, combine the diced cherries, red onion, jalapeño, honey, balsamic vinegar, and cilantro. Stir gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add lime juice if desired. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.

Skewer the Turkey: Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat. Thread the marinated turkey cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.

Grill the Skewers: Once the grill is hot, place the skewers on it. Grill the turkey skewers for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have nice grill marks. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C).

Serve: Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve warm with a generous topping of cherry salsa.

Enjoy your meal! Pair these skewers with a side of rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
