Ingredients

2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for the filling)

1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Optional: vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples and lemon juice. Add granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and all-purpose flour. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Roll Out the Pie Crust: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie crust into a rough 12-inch circle. Don’t worry about perfection; rustic is the goal!

Assemble the Galette: Transfer the rolled-out crust to the prepared baking sheet. Spoon the apple mixture into the center of the crust, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges. Fold the edges of the crust over the apples, pleating as you go, to create a border that encases some of the filling.

Egg Wash: Brush the folded edges of the crust with the beaten egg to give it a beautiful golden brown color when baked. Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the crust for added crunch and sweetness.

Bake: Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the apples are tender. Keep an eye on it towards the end to prevent over-browning.

Cool and Serve: Remove the galette from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Slice and serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
