Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup diced apples (preferably Granny Smith)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup apple cider (or milk for a different flavor)

Optional: coarse sugar for sprinkling on top

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, vanilla extract, and apple cider until smooth.

Mix It All Together: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Shape the Scones: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut into 2-inch squares or triangles.

Transfer to Baking Sheet: Place the cut scones onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave a little space between each scone.

Optional Topping: If desired, sprinkle coarse sugar over the top of each scone for a sweet crunch.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Cool and Serve: Allow the scones to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
