Ingredients

4 large croissants, day-old preferred, torn into pieces

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

3 eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Pinch of salt

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Whipped cream or ice cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Fruit: In a large bowl, add the diced apples. Toss them with 1/4 cup of caramel sauce and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ensuring the apples are well-coated. This will add flavor and keep the apples moist during baking.

Arrange Croissants: Place the torn croissant pieces evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Scatter the caramel-coated apple mixture on top of the croissant pieces.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is well combined and smooth.

Combine and Soak: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and apples, making sure to coat all the croissant pieces. Press down gently with a spatula to help the croissants soak up the mixture. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the liquid.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and puffed up. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.

Cool Slightly: Once done, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes to set slightly.

Serve: Drizzle remaining caramel sauce over the top of the bake. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for an extra decadent touch.

Enjoy your delightful Apple Cinnamon Croissant Bake!
